Yeah.. the election.
Where to start?
Fucking disappointing to say the list. Apparently 51% of voters in this country feel Bush’s fake Christian values and his even more fake masculinity are more important than half a million jobs lost, 1000 troops killed and 100,000 civilians killed in an attack on the wrong country, a virtual crusade against the environment, pissing off most of the rest of the world, and worsening our dependence on foreign oil.
So, let’s go through this laundry list of complaints and accusations, I can back them up.
Fake Christian values: Okay, so, Bush is born again. Apparently in his trip out of the holy utereus he missed the tenets of humility, peace, and love. That or eschewing them and following others is okay. Just make sure you get that prayer of forgiveness before kicking off.
Fake masculinity: Unlike his father, Bush Jr, managed to avoid the wimp label, despite the fact that their upbringings are remarkable similar: upper class, priviligeged, east coast white. Jr got himself a ranch in Texas and an accent and behold. Meanwhile, issues important to democrats tend to be viewed as feminine. Jobs and casualties: Well, these are numbers you can find anywhere really. Yes, in recent months some jobs have been created, but the net is still a half a million in the hole. Sorry, George. In actuality causalty estimates range from 12,000 to nearly 200,000, 100,000 is a nice average. Regardless, even at the low end, that’s pretty horrific and people are dying violently at a rate higher than that under Hussein. Now, add in the fact that Iraq has never been a big sponsor of terrorism, had nothing to do with 9/11 and does not have strong ties to Al Qaeda. If he was serious about going after terrorists, he’d’ve gone for Iran, Syria, Somalia, or at the very least called the Saudis to task for their monetary support of terrorism not to mention the fact that 15 of the 9/11 attackers were Saudis. So yeah, he attacked the wrong country and killed tens of thousands of people. Good job, George.
The Environment: Well, the record’s pretty clear here, drilling in the ANR, logging in our national forests, near absence of government support for research in alternate/renewable energy sorces etc etc.
Bush vs the rest of the world: Ahh, yeah. There are only three countries where Bush is more popular than Kerry as a presidential candidate: Nigeria, Poland and the Philipines. (Look here under ‘outsite the US’, about 2/3 of the way down the page.)
Foreign Oil: That we import a crapload of foreign oil is indisputable (over 50% of what we consome). Now, other concerns aside, from a national security standpoint, does anyone think this is a good idea?
So, are people really so hot to ban gay marriage, abortion and stem cell research that it’s worth running the rest of the country into the ground? Is preserving some mythical masculine image of our country worth alienating the rest of the world?
Think people, that’s all I’m asking. Weigh all the issues. What’s really making us less secure? What’s really going to improve our quality of life in this country? Is swaggering and being unable to admit our mistakes worth thousands of lives?
